Service Care Solutions is currently recruiting for two experienced Senior Coroner’s Officers to join Camden Council’s Coroner’s Service on a temporary basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a personal caseload of referrals and inquests, including complex and sensitive cases.
  • Support the Coroner in progressing investigations, judicial decisions and instructions.
  • Make enquiries into deaths and provide the Coroner with the information required to make appropriate judicial decisions.
  • Gather and assess evidence, including statements, reports and relevant social and medical histories.
  • Arrange post-mortems, including invasive procedures or CT imaging, where directed by the Coroner.
  • Manage casework correspondence, enquiries and issues throughout the investigation.
  • Ensure all case information and actions are accurately recorded using the Civica case management system.
  • Liaise sensitively and professionally with bereaved families, legal representatives, witnesses and Interested Persons.
  • Work closely with police, medical professionals, mental health services, first responders and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the organisation of pre-inquest hearings and inquests.
  • Prepare disclosure bundles, certificates and other relevant documentation.
  • Assist with witness summonses and arrangements for hearings.
  • Liaise with mortuary staff regarding the release and management of bodies and pathological specimens.
  • Provide support for on-call and occasional out-of-hours requirements.
  • Work under the guidance of the Coroner and Lead Coronial Officer to oversee the work of a small team of Coroner’s Officers.

About You

  • Good knowledge and understanding of the delivery of Coroner Services.
  • Previous experience working within a coronial environment.
  • Experience managing complex and sensitive casework.
  • Experience managing or overseeing a small team.
  • A strong understanding of relevant coronial legislation, regulations, guidance and case law.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when working with bereaved families.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organisational and case management skills.
  • Excellent IT skills and experience maintaining accurate case records.
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, partner organisations and external stakeholders.
  • Working Environment

This is a fully office and court-based role, with no remote-working provision.

The post holder may be required to work across St Pancras Coroner’s Court, Poplar Coroner’s Court, Bow Coroner’s Court and other locations depending on operational requirements.

There will also be on-call responsibilities and occasional requirements to attend evening meetings or out-of-hours events.
