Service Care Solutions are recruiting for a Street Cleansing Operative to join a busy Streetscene Team in Reading. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming public spaces.

About the Role

You will play a key role in the day-to-day cleansing of public and open spaces, helping deliver a high-quality service to residents, businesses, and visitors. This is a hands-on, physical role where you will be working outside in all weather conditions as part of a supportive and hardworking team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out litter picking and general cleansing duties across parks and open spaces
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness in line with set schedules
  • Conduct visual inspections of children’s playground equipment and safety surfaces
  • Report any defects or hazards to the relevant teams
  • Support other operational teams during peak periods
  • Ensure public safety and enforce byelaws with professionalism and tact
  • Drive work vehicles (vans/tippers) to transport equipment, materials, and waste
  • Carry out basic maintenance checks on equipment

Requirements

Essential: Full UK manual driving license (Category B or C1); Confident driving vehicles up to 3.5 ton (vans/tippers); Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions; Physically fit and able to carry out manual duties; Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable: Experience in cleansing, grounds maintenance, or similar outdoor roles; Basic understanding of manual handling; Experience or knowledge of playground inspections (RPII Level 1 beneficial, but training provided).

Additional Information

Based at Bennet Road Depot, Reading. Full insurance and licence checks carried out before driving duties (via Fleet Management). Training provided where required. No interview required – immediate starts available (first come, first served).
