Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm

Pay Rates: £13.26 per hour PAYE to £14.00 per hour PAYE (Excl Holiday) | £17.14 - £18.11 per hour Umbrella

Role Overview

We are recruiting an experienced Gardener/Horticulturist to join the Green Spaces & Street Scene team within a local authority service. The role requires maintaining and improving parks, open spaces and public areas, working both independently and as part of a team, and performing a wide variety of horticultural and grounds maintenance duties across the borough.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grass cutting, strimming and hedge trimming
  • Routine gardening and horticultural maintenance
  • Fine turf care and ornamental horticulture
  • Hard and soft landscaping
  • Tree maintenance and associated horticultural works
  • Safe operation, maintenance and care of horticultural machinery and equipment
  • Maintaining clean, safe and tidy working areas
  • Completing timesheets, vehicle checks, job sheets and HAVS monitoring records
  • Driving council vehicles where required
  • Delivering excellent customer service whilst representing the client

Essential Requirements

  • Full UK Driving Licence (Category B minimum)
  • NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture (or equivalent)
  • Lantra Certificate – Safe Use of Pedestrian Mower
  • Lantra Certificate – Safe Use of Hedge Trimmer
  • Lantra Certificate – Safe Use of Strimmer/Brushcutter
  • Experience working in an outdoor environment
  • Experience carrying out horticultural and grounds maintenance duties
  • Knowledge of horticultural machinery, tools and equipment
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety procedures
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Good customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to interpret site plans
  • Organised with the ability to manage workloads effectively

Desirable

  • Knowledge of machinery maintenance
  • Experience working safely on the highway network
  • Experience using initiative to complete work without supervision
