We are seeking a dedicated, motivated, and compassionate Deputy Manager to join our children’s residential service. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced childcare professional to play a key leadership role in delivering outstanding care and support to children and young people while helping to shape and develop a high‑performing team.

The Role

As Deputy Manager, you will provide day‑to‑day leadership within the home, supporting staff teams and ensuring the highest standards of care are consistently delivered. You will lead shifts, support staff development, oversee key operational tasks, and act as the designated person in charge in the absence of the Registered Manager. This is a hands‑on leadership role that combines direct work with children and young people alongside management responsibilities, helping to drive positive outcomes and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage shifts effectively.
  • Support children and young people with their daily care, development, and well‑being.
  • Manage and respond to behaviours in line with care plans and organisational policies.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support members of the staff team.
  • Carry out staff inductions and contribute to ongoing development and training.
  • Assist with staffing management and rota coordination.
  • Support the Registered Manager with operational and administrative responsibilities.
  • Complete and oversee care plans, risk assessments, recordings, and documentation.
  • Support quality assurance processes and service improvement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with families, social workers, education providers, and external professionals.
  • Maintain a positive and therapeutic environment for children and young people.

Leadership & Management Responsibilities

  • Act as the designated person in charge during the absence of the Registered Manager.
  • Support the management of staffing, performance, and practice standards.
  • Assist with Ofsted inspections and regulatory compliance.
  • Support and respond to Regulation 44 visits and recommendations.
  • Manage relationships with external professionals and agencies.
  • Ensure the home consistently meets Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
  • Support the Registered Manager in achieving positive outcomes and maintaining high‑quality service delivery.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working within a children’s residential care setting.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding procedures and children’s legislation.
  • Experience leading shifts and supporting staff teams.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage challenging situations confidently and professionally.
  • Commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including participation in the on‑call and sleep‑in rota where required.
