Service Care Solutions are currently working alongside a reputable West London Borough Council who are seeking an experienced Senior Contracts & Procurement Lawyer to join their legal team on a locum basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced legal professional with strong public sector contracts and procurement experience to join a busy and supportive local authority legal team, handling a varied and high-level caseload.
Location: West London
Rate: £65.00ph Umbrella / £57.16ph PAYE (inc. holiday pay) / £51.00ph PAYE (exc. holiday pay)
Contract: Initial 3-month contract, 36 hours per week. Please note, this role requires office attendance 1 day per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior-level legal advice on a wide range of contracts, procurement, and governance matters
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements and contractual documentation
- Advise on procurement processes, including matters relating to the Procurement Act 2023
- Manage contentious procurement matters, including disputes involving the Technology and Construction Court
- Deliver high-quality legal services, including drafting reports, providing training, and supporting internal stakeholders
- Lead on complex and high-profile matters while supporting senior management within the legal team
- Instruct and oversee external solicitors and counsel where required
- Provide supervision and support to junior team members when necessary
About you
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive
- Extensive experience handling contracts and procurement matters, ideally within local government or the wider public sector
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills with the ability to manage complex matters independently
- Experience advising senior stakeholders and providing commercially focused legal solutions
- Strong understanding of governance and local authority legal frameworks
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced legal environment while maintaining excellent client care
