Communications Operator – Force Control Room Location: St Asaph
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Shifts: 4 on / 4 off rotating pattern (days and nights)
Next Start Dates:

  • 15th September 2025 (no annual leave during initial 6-week training)
  • 9th March 2026 (no annual leave during initial 6-week training)
    Welsh Language Requirement: Level 4
    CVF Level: 1

Join the Team That Keeps North Wales Safe – 24/7 North Wales Police’s Force Control Room in St Asaph is the hub of frontline response. Our Communications Operators are responsible for handling emergency 999 and non-emergency 101 calls and dispatching officers across the region—providing a critical lifeline to the public every day of the year.
This is a role where every call matters and every action could make a life-saving difference.
What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Initial Investigation: Gather key information from callers to assess risk, identify opportunities for evidence gathering and advise on crime prevention.
  • Multi-Agency Collaboration: Liaise with emergency services and partners to coordinate police support when needed.
  • Public Advice & Support: Resolve non-emergency queries, offer guidance, or direct individuals to more appropriate services.
  • Intelligence Gathering: Log critical community intelligence to inform future policing operations.
  • Professional Service Delivery: Maintain high standards of service, even under pressure or in rapid succession of calls.

Shift Pattern:

  • Core pattern: 4 on, 4 off (2 days followed by 2 nights)
  • Hours: 10–12 hour shifts
  • Pre-planned rota:
    • 32 weeks in advance (full-time)
    • 64 weeks in advance (part-time)

1 7am – 7pm
2 7am – 7pm
3 7pm – 7am
4 7pm – 7am
5–8 Rest Days

Training: A comprehensive 6-week training programme (Mon–Fri) will take place at St Asaph or HQ Colwyn Bay. No annual leave can be taken during this period.
What You’ll Need:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Communications, Business, or Customer Service—or relevant work experience
  • Typing speed of 25–30 words per minute
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • IT proficiency and data input experience
  • Problem-solving ability and calmness under pressure
  • Good local knowledge of North Wales
