Care Solutions are recruiting for a Caretaker to support estate services across various residential sites in South West London. Working under the direction of the local Estate Services Manager, you will help ensure communal areas are clean, safe, and well maintained, while also carrying out minor repairs and supporting cleaning and grounds maintenance teams. This hands-on, physically active role requires a proactive attitude, good practical skills, and a strong commitment to maintaining high standards across communal environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out cleaning duties in communal areas including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, polishing, and litter picking.
- Clean and maintain refuse chutes, bin stores, and external waste areas.
- Undertake deep cleaning using equipment such as jet washers and steam cleaners (training provided where required).
- Carry out minor repairs of a basic semi-skilled nature (e.g. joinery, basic plumbing such as unblocking sinks/toilets, internal painting, lock changes, graffiti removal).
- Identify and report defects or repairs that cannot be resolved, following up where required.
- Carry out inspections and complete reports as requested.
- Provide cover for colleagues during absence.
- Act as a point of contact for residents, offering assistance or directing queries appropriately.
- Be mindful of vulnerable residents and elevate concerns when necessary.
- Maintain professional and respectful communication with residents, contractors, and colleagues at all times.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures and use PPE and equipment correctly.
- Use mobile devices to access emails, log repairs, and record health and safety issues.
Requirements
- Good practical skills with the ability to carry out minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Experience working within small teams.
- Basic understanding of Health & Safety in a maintenance or caretaking environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Comfortable using smartphones or digital systems for reporting and communication.
- Physically fit and able to undertake manual, outdoor, and demanding work.
- A positive, “can-do” attitude with a professional approach to customer service.
Additional Information
You will be provided with tools, machinery, uniform, safety boots, and full PPE required to carry out your duties safely. Training will also be provided where necessary. The role may require flexibility to undertake additional duties consistent with the post as required.
