Pay Rate: £14.82 PAYE per hour | £19.20 LTD Umbrella per hour (inclusive of holiday pay)
Role Overview
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for completing daily waste collection rounds across the borough, ensuring high standards of service delivery while maintaining safety for your team, the public, and yourself. You will also take on supervisory responsibilities, overseeing a small team and ensuring all operational duties are carried out effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive LGV vehicles (Category C) on designated waste collection routes
- Supervise and support waste collection crew members on a daily basis
- Ensure all collections are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule
- Operate mechanical lifting equipment for refuse collection
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and security of vehicles and equipment
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work
- Communicate professionally with residents and handle queries appropriately
- Complete records using paper-based systems or handheld electronic devices
- Provide guidance, support, and on-the-job training to team members
Requirements
Essential:
- Valid UK Category C (Class 2) driving licence
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
- Experience within waste management or a similar operational environment
- Experience supervising or leading a team
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety in a practical setting
- Ability to carry out physically demanding work in all weather conditions
Desirable:
- Manual Handling, IOSH Working Safely, or Needle Stick training (or willingness to undertake)
- Experience using handheld devices for task management/reporting
- Ability to identify and implement improvements to working practices
