We are currently recruiting for experienced PIP Investigators to support Serious and Complex Crime investigations within Thames Valley Police. This is an operational investigative role suited to candidates with a strong policing or major investigations background who are confident managing serious crime enquiries, progressing investigations independently, and producing high-quality prosecution files. The successful candidate will work as part of a mixed economy investigative team alongside Detectives, Police Officers and Police Staff Investigators, managing complex investigations from initial allocation through to court outcome.
Location: Aylesbury HQ – Thames Valley Police
Contract type: 3 month minimum contract
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Pay Rate: £20.91 PAYE per hour / £27.61 Umbrella per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and progress serious and complex criminal investigations as Officer in Charge (OIC)
- Conduct suspect and witness interviews, including achieving best evidence where appropriate
- Gather, review and manage evidential material including digital evidence, CCTV and mobile device data
- Prepare evidentially sound prosecution files for CPS and Crown Court submission
- Maintain accurate investigative records using NICHE and ensure compliance with the Victims Code
- Conduct safeguarding assessments and work closely with partner agencies including MASH
- Attend court to provide evidence and support victims and witnesses throughout the judicial process
- Ensure compliance with CPIA disclosure obligations and force policy requirements
- Support fast-time investigations and provide resilience across investigative teams when required
Essential Skills and Experience:
- PIP1 Accredited Investigator
- Previous police investigative background essential
- Full UK driving licence essential
- Experience managing criminal investigations and progressing case files
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, victim care and disclosure responsibilities
- Experience preparing CPS files and dealing with Crown Court matters
- Excellent communication, organisational and decision-making skills
- Ability to manage multiple investigations within a fast-paced operational environment
- Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends where required
