Service Care Solutions are currently working alongside a thrilling local authority based in Greater Manchester. They are looking for a Head of Legal Services to lead and develop their in-house legal function. This is an excellent opportunity to work at a senior level, providing strategic legal leadership and supporting the Force’s operational and commercial objectives.
Temporary assignment: 3-6 months ongoing contract on a Hybrid basis. This role pays a competitive day rate of £500 umbrella.
Responsibilities as Head of Legal Services:- Provide strategic leadership and management of the Legal Services team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality legal advice across the Force.
- Oversee a varied and complex caseload, including contracts, procurement, governance, litigation, employment, and public law matters.
- Act as the principal legal adviser to senior officers, Chief Officers, and key stakeholders on high-risk and high-value matters.
- Ensure legal compliance across all areas of Force activity, managing legal risk and supporting effective decision-making.
- Lead on complex commercial and procurement projects of significant value, including drafting, negotiating, and approving high-value and sensitive contracts.
- Manage external legal providers and counsel, ensuring value for money and effective outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement within the Legal Services function, contributing to policy development and service modernisation.
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with significant post-qualification experience.
- Extensive experience in managing legal teams within a public sector or complex organisational environment.
- Strong background in commercial contracts, procurement, and governance law.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at senior level.
- Able to work under pressure, managing competing priorities and high-profile matters.
