Job Title – Housing Options OfficerLocation – Taunton (Hybrid working with county-wide travel)Contract – PermanentHours – Full-time, 37 hours per weekSalary – £28,371 to £32,020 per annum (Grade 11)Role Summary:We are currently recruiting for a Housing Options Officer on behalf of a local authority based in Somerset. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic and committed team focused on preventing homelessness and helping individuals secure long-term housing solutions.Key Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive housing advice and information to applicants who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
• Conduct detailed assessments to determine housing needs and eligibility under current homelessness legislation.
• Develop personalised housing plans and manage a diverse caseload with precision and attention to detail.
• Make and communicate legally compliant decisions regarding homelessness duties.
• Liaise with a range of statutory and voluntary agencies to deliver effective housing solutions.
• Support applicants to access accommodation in the private rented sector using deposit and bond guarantee schemes.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in line with data protection policies.
• Carry out home visits and occasional out-of-hours emergency support, as required.

Requirements:

• Experience in housing advice, homelessness prevention or a related field (e.g. housing association, local authority).
• Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and Housing Act 1996 (Desirable).
• Excellent communication, negotiation and organisational skills.
• Able to manage a complex caseload with minimal supervision.
• Must hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle for home visits.
• Minimum of A-Level education or equivalent; NVQ Level 4 desirable.
• Ability to speak fluent English as required by Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016.
• DBS clearance will be required.
