Hours – Full Time, 37 hours per week
Salary – £19.35 LTD / £16.11 PAYE per hour
Role summary – We are currently recruiting for a Housing Officer on behalf of a local authority in Portsmouth. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a patch of around 250 properties, providing comprehensive housing management support to tenants and leaseholders. You’ll play a vital role in helping residents sustain their tenancies, while delivering excellent customer service and taking appropriate tenancy enforcement action where necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support tenants to meet their responsibilities under the tenancy agreement
- Offer advice on budgeting, income maximisation, and property upkeep
- Tackle anti-social behaviour and contribute to multi-agency case management
- Conduct home visits and maintain up-to-date case records
- Prepare and present documentation for court and case conferences
- Use sound judgment to manage and prioritise a diverse caseload
- Engage with customers to identify vulnerabilities and offer appropriate support
- Represent the council at court hearings and other formal settings
- Use IT systems and Microsoft Office software effectively
Requirements:
- Previous experience in front-line housing management or similar customer-focused role
- Ability to work under pressure and manage a busy caseload independently
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Confidence in representing the council at court and multi-agency meetings
- Competent in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and case management systems
- Full driving licence and use of a car is desirable
- Willingness to work flexibly across 7 area offices and outside normal hours when required
