Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Revenues Officer to join a well-established local authority revenues service. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled officer with strong Council Tax and/or Business Rates experience to support billing, collection, and recovery functions within a busy Revenues & Benefits team.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for administering Council Tax and Business Rates accounts, ensuring accurate billing, effective collection, and appropriate recovery action in line with legislation. You will manage a varied caseload, respond to customer enquiries, and contribute to service improvements while working to agreed targets and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer Council Tax and Business Rates accounts in accordance with current legislation
- Assess liability and apply discounts, exemptions, reliefs, and amendments accurately
- Maintain and update revenues systems to ensure prompt and correct billing
- Respond to enquiries from residents, businesses, and agents via phone, email, and correspondence
- Agree affordable repayment plans and determine appropriate recovery action based on individual circumstances
- Maximise income collection while maintaining a customer-focused approach
- Contribute ideas to improve processes, procedures, and service delivery
- Support the training or induction of colleagues where required
- Ensure work complies with council policies, health & safety standards, and equalities legislation
Essential Requirements
- Strong knowledge of local taxation legislation or demonstrable experience working with complex regulations
- Experience administering Council Tax and/or Business Rates accounts
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage workloads to deadlines
- Confident communicator, able to explain complex information clearly and accurately
- Positive, adaptable approach to working in a pressurised and changing environment
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills
- IT-literate, with experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and revenues systems
Desirable
- Previous revenue collection or recovery experience (public or private sector)
- Experience contributing to service improvement initiatives
- Knowledge of equality, diversity, and inclusive service delivery
