A Local Authority based in Central London is currently seeking an experienced Chartered Structural Engineer to support its Building Control and Dangerous Structures functions during a peak in workload. This is a temporary assignment within the Growth, Planning and Housing directorate, working on a hybrid basis with occasional site inspections required. The role plays a key part in ensuring the safety, compliance, and structural integrity of developments across the borough.
Responsibilities:
- Review and check structural designs submitted with planning and building regulations applications
- Provide timely responses to basement development consultations issued by Planning
- Carry out occasional site inspections as required
- Advise on, prepare reports for, and support actions relating to Dangerous Structures
- Act as a core member of the Dangerous Structures team
- Manage caseloads effectively, ensuring SLAs and response times are consistently met
- Support Building Control Surveyors with structural assessments
Requirements:
- Chartered Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or equivalent recognised body
- Significant operational experience in structural engineering
- Strong time management, organisational, and record-keeping skills
