Job Description

A client within the Public Sector based in Greater Manchester is currently recruiting for a Clerk of Works to join their Traffic Management, Road Safety and Highway Adoptions Team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a highways and construction environment.The Role Key purpose of the role is to supervise the delivery of a Section 278 scheme involving the signalisation of a motorway junction, incorporating controlled pedestrian crossing facilities and associated shared surface routes around the gyratory, ensuring compliance with drawings, permits, traffic management plans, and method statements.Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Supervising construction works on the public highway during overnight shifts (7pm–5am)
  • Monitoring compliance with approved plans, specifications, and safety requirements
  • Ensuring proper temporary traffic management is in place and maintained
  • Maintaining detailed site records including daily diaries, productivity, and contractor performance
  • Liaising with contractors, consultants, and statutory undertakers
  • Ensuring works meet legal and statutory obligations including CDM Regulations and Street Works Permitting
  • Preparing site reports and communicating any issues or risks in a timely manner

The Candidate To be considered for this role you will require:

  • HND in Civil Engineering or similar technical discipline
  • CSCS card and Full UK Driving Licence
  • Significant experience supervising highway schemes and contract management
  • Knowledge of Chapter 8 Temporary Traffic Management, Street Works permitting, and CDM 2015 Regulations

The below skills would be beneficial for the role:

  • Membership of a relevant professional institution
  • Knowledge of NEC3 contracts
  • Experience mentoring junior staff
  • Carbon Literacy Certificate or willingness to undertake training
