A client within the Public Sector, based in North Yorkshire, is currently recruiting for a Building Control Surveyor to join their Planning Team as soon as possible. This is a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, and the ideal candidate should have experience working within a local authority in a Building Control environment.

The Role

Key purpose of the role:

  • Support the Building Control Service and Management Team in effectively delivering the Building Control function across North Yorkshire.
  • Undertake technical assessments, inspections, and enforcement to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation.
  • Assist in managing caseloads for various developments, ensuring buildings meet regulatory standards in health, safety, sustainability, and design.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessing Building Regulation applications, enforcing compliance, and recommending approval or rejection within statutory timeframes.
  • Conducting site inspections and ensuring construction meets building codes and regulations.
  • Investigating and managing reports of dangerous structures, demolitions, and unauthorized works.
  • Initiating and assisting with enforcement actions under the Building Act 1984.
  • Providing professional guidance and technical support to stakeholders, including contractors, statutory agencies, and the public.
  • Supporting out-of-hours emergency responses related to dangerous structures.

The Candidate

To be considered for this role, you must be Level 1 Registered with the Building Safety Regulator and possess the following essential qualifications:

  • HND/Degree in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Registered (or working towards) Class 1: Trainee Building Inspector under the HSE Building Inspector Competency Framework (BICoF).
  • Student or Associate Membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS, CABE, or CIOB.

The following skills and qualifications would also be beneficial:

  • Chartered Membership of a relevant professional body (RICS, CABE, CIOB).
  • Knowledge of the construction industry, building regulations, and enforcement procedures.
  • Experience in Building Control, including small domestic and complex non-domestic projects.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.

Salary & Contract

Rate: £32 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £24 per hour PAYE). Contract: Temporary, full-time, ongoing basis.
