A vacancy may arise for a Squadron Leader (Regiment) to serve as SO2 Combat and Readiness Force (CRF) Reserves on No. 2 Force Protection (Counter-Uncrewed Aerial Systems) Wg HQ at RAF Leeming on Part Time Volunteer Reserve (PTVR) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 06 July 2026. The Combat & Readiness Force (CRF) mission is to DEFEND the RAF in order to ENABLE freedom of manoeuvre to deliver Air and Space Power.
No.2 FP (CUAS) Wg HQ manages CUAS training, assurance, and deployment for Defence, and oversees RAF Ceremonial activities via the King’s Colour Sqn. The unit commands integrated Air FP C2, including three RAF Regt FEs (one RAuxAF Sqn), critical to delivery of global and domestic Air FP effects supporting the CRF mission.
SO2 CRF Reserve advises OC 2 CUAS Wg on Reserves' utility, training, and management, while assisting with command, control, discipline, and coordination of the Wg HQ and sub-units. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop skills and experience, strengthening competitiveness for future Sqn Cmd positions or other career pathways within RAuxAF, if pursued.
The following outlines the requirements of the post:
- Provide SME advice on FP Res specialist training and managing Reservists' minimum 27-day annual commitment, ensuring efficient planning and resource use for the Wg’s Reserve FE.
- As required, act as MACA Advisor, monitoring regional workforce needs, promoting training opportunities, and updating COS on standing MACA tasks.
- Manage Wg-level assurance and governance for Reserve subunits, focusing on Ph 2 Trg, Duty of Care, ITTs, and Risk, aligned with Ground Combat & Security Profession Reserve Coordination Cell CSP RCC.
- Support development and delivery of CRF Reserves Concepts and Policy in coordination with GCSP RCC.
- Offer a CRF Reserve regional perspective on Infra, Equipment, Workforce Reviews, and Reserve Optimisation, assisting GCSP RCC.
- Serve as Planning/Project Officer for Air FP projects supporting CRF development and experimentation.
