Subject to Formal Establishment, a vacancy will arise for a Warrant Officer (any profession) to serve as Apprentice Liaison (AL) Team Leader at RAF Cosford on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 26 October 2026 (or earlier/later, subject to candidate status). While this position is formally established on FTRS (LC) TCoS, the post is also open for applicants to apply on alternative TCoS (ADC or VeRR) and candidates are requested to make their TCoS preference clear in their application covering letter, for review during the selection process.

The RAF has approximately 2000 Aeronautical Engineering Apprentices at any one time and this number is due to increase over the next 5 years (WF Balance 2030). To better support apprentices and their Line Managers, RAF Apprenticeships will establish Sgt AL posts on front-line Sqns, FS AL Lead posts on front-line units and one WO AL Team Leader at RAF Cosford. These posts will provide a critical interface between Sqn Line Managers, Apprentices and Military Apprenticeship Co-ordinators with the aim of improving the apprenticeship experience and encouraging successful and timely apprenticeship completion.

  • Responsibilities:
  • The AL Team Leader is responsible to Aircraft Engineering Apprenticeships (AEA) for the Command, leadership, reporting, organisational communication, data protection, discipline, welfare and pastoral care of all AL staff across all MOBs.
  • The AL Team Leader is responsible for ensuring that all OR 7/OR 6 ALs across the MOBs can carry out their responsibilities by ensuring the following:
    • Parenting agreement is being adhered to.
    • Office, Classroom and interview spaces have been allocated or are available to be utilised.
    • All necessary equipment including IT, Office furniture is suitable.
    • All Doctrine and policy have been created and managed:
      • Up-to-date responsibilities
      • Work instructions
      • Orders
      • Leaflets or other information provided to the apprentices, e.g. PREVENT, BV, RAF course etc.
    • Through FS AL Lead ensuring that all staff are fully trained to carry out the responsibility:
      • Mandatory training has been completed and documented accordingly.
      • KPIs
      • JOB relevant Qualifications.
  • The AL Team Leader is responsible for standardisation across their AOR:
    • Attending AEAHQ executive meetings
    • Chairing 6 monthly AL standardisation meetings.
    • Carrying out face to face visits to stations and Engineering Organisations.
    • Implementing assurance programmes in consultation with QMS.
  • Act as POC with Engineering Organisation management ensuring that:
    • AL are carrying out their role as detailed within their responsibilities.
    • AL are not being tasked outside their remit.
    • Gather feedback from work areas on AL performance for trending, standardisation and reporting purposes.
  • Primary POC for ACIT, HQ RAF Apprenticeships and AEA visits ensuring that:
    • The AL and Engineering Organisations to be visited are given notice of visits, and make sure that station visits procedures have been actioned.
    • Provide assistance as required during visits.
    • Any relevant information relating to visit is UpToDate.
    • Any previous actions or issues found on visits have been captured and either actioned or allocated accordingly.
    • Promote and support CI events propose improvements to organisational objectives and AL output.
  • POC for Ofsted.
  • Oversee workforce management and allocation to station and Engineering Organisation ensuring that:
    • AL positions on each Engineering Organisation are either filled or advertised as vacant.
    • Vacant AL positions are being covered by other AL on Station as required.
