700X NAVAL AIR SQUADRON (NAS) NAVAL TEST AND EVALUATION FLIGHT (NTEF) TEST AND EVALUATION (T&E) SENIOR RATE (SR).
Mission Statement
Enabling the Joint Force to realise Open, S1 and S2 Remotely Piloted Air Systems (RPAS) capability by collaboratively and coherently developing safe, innovative, agile, deployable solutions across the Battlespace; and assure aviation test and evaluation under the Royal Navy (RN) Aviation Operating Authority (AOA).
Purposes
Primary Purpose.
- Support the 700X NAS NTEF Head of Department (HoD) to assure the provision of a safe, efficient and effective department capable of assessing and developing innovative RPAS solutions, whilst supporting Joint Force demands.
- Serve as a T&S Senior Rate.
- Conduct the Verification and Validation (V&V) of new systems to inform the Type Airworthiness Authority (TAA) and MoD units via the 700X NAS RPAS Database.
- Ensure V&V tests are kept relevant and up to date.
- Manage the V&V priorities and demands, own the Horizon Scanning function and back brief NTEF HoD on progress.
- Undertake trials activity when tasked by NTEF HoD.
- To undertake Trials activity when tasked by NTEF Flight Commander (Flt Cdr) and HoD.
- To act as a Trials Management Officer (TMO) when designated.
- To act as a Trials Safety Officer (TSO) when designated. The requirement for a TSO will be identified during the Trials Risk Analysis (TRA) phase with duties
stated as a specific element of trial activity. - Update & Manage V&V Database and RPAS Beginner's Guide.
Secondary Purpose.
- Assist the NTEF HoD to maintain a functioning department.
- To proactively foster and advance RPAS V&V processes and associated air safety. To be an RPAS Operator.
- To act as a Local Investigator for assigned 700X NAS Defence Air Safety Occurrence Reports (DASORS).
- To undertake Assistant Unit Security Officer (AUSO) duties in support of the Unit Security Officer (USO).
- To support the 700X Flight Safety Officer as the NTEF Flight Safety Committee member.
Accountability
The 700X NAS T&E SR is accountable to the 700X NAS Commanding Officer (CO)
via the NTEF HoD.
Authority
The 700X NAS T&E SR is authorised to:
- Liaise with external agencies as required including, but not limited to, NCHQ, Platform PTs, Navy CTS, MWC, DSTL and other personnel for OT&E purposes.
- Correspond directly with all internal and external agencies, service and civilian, on all matters concerning their primary and secondary purposes.
- Liaise with allied/partner nation representatives to enable the provision of RPAS capability.
