A vacancy has arisen for a WO (Gnr) to serve as Training Safety Advisor (TSA) at The South West (SW) Region Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC) on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 30 November 2026 or earlier/later subject to candidate status.
The role comes with a service provided vehicle (subject to confirmation), MOD Laptop and Mobile phone. The successful candidate will be required to assist the Regional Commandant, in their DDH capacity, Regional HQ Staff, OC Wings and Region Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) to fulfil their responsibilities for the planning, management, coordination and assurance associated with the safe delivery of cadet activities. The TSA will discharge this role in close liaison with the Pillar Leads, Regional Adventure Training Officer (RATTO), Regional Fieldcraft Officer (RFCO), Regional Shooting Officer (RShO), OC Small Arms Training Team (OC SATT), Regional DofE Officer, Regional Health and Safety Advisor (RSA), FS Cadet Training Team (FS CTT) and the equivalent Regional staff. The TSA will act as an assurance advisor and safety monitor for RAFAC Cadet and Cadet Force Adult Volunteer (CFAV) training whilst working closely with the RAFAC HQ SME’s.
The main tasks to be completed by the TSA are as follows:
a. To advise SW Region HQ, Wings and CCF (RAF) on the planning and conduct of safe Cadet Training, iaw the SST including but not limited to, range documentation, risk assessments and assurance. You are also to assist with the creation of safe and progressive training programmes for both cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.
b. At the request of the Wings and CCF (RAF), to advise and assist with specific training and assurance issues at Wing and Sqn level.
c. To monitor and advise on all RAFAC and CCF (RAF) activities that the Regional Commandant (RC-SW) has DDH responsibilities for including informing the relevant Chain of Command of any actions/anomalies.
d. To establish clearance, authorisation and 1st Party Assurance (1PA) audit procedures that are integrated into the existing training activity assurance model, auditing a minimum of 10% of Risk to Life activity applications submitted each month.
e. To monitor and validate RAFAC training activities at Wing and Regional level.
f. To support and advise activity commanders of RAFAC Multi-Activity Camps and provide 1PA to the RC.
g. To act as the 1st RO for the FS CTT.
h. To ensure the TSA allocated vehicle is maintained and serviced iaw MT orders and the vehicle servicing schedule, whilst maintaining its roadworthiness.
i. To be familiar with the H&S at work act 1974, as you will form part of the “ Regional Total Safety Group” (RTSG), which manages and governs the application of Total Safety across the Region. In this capacity, you are to exercise the responsibilities detailed in the TORs for the RTSG.
j. To undertake any additional tasks in relation to RAFAC Training Safety and Assurance as directed by the Regional HQ.
