A vacancy has arisen for a Flt Lt Ground & Combat Security - Regt to serve as a Flt Cdr at King’s Colour Squadron, RAF Northolt on Full Time Reserve Service (Full Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 03 August 2026 (or earlier/later, subject to candidate status). KCS is the RAF’s Drill and Ceremonial Sqn and is also an integral part of No.2 Counter-Uncrewed Air Systems (C-UAS) Wg.

The successful applicant will be responsible to OC KCS for the daily routine management and operational effectiveness of their assigned Flt. They will have command responsibilities over nominated personnel as per the KCS ORBAT meaning they will lead their Flt, including on ceremonial tasks and operational deployments. To fulfil these responsibilities, they must be prepared to complete drill and ceremonial training to an exceptionally high standard to perform Public Duties.

As part of this role there will be an operational deployment lasting for just over 6-months which is likely to begin Feb 27; prior to deploying there is an expectation that Pre-Deployment Training will be completed in this role therefore a strong command presence is essential. Aside from ceremonial and generic RAF Regt training, KCS are also Counter-Uncrewed Air Systems specialists so, upon taking up this post it will be expected that a significant amount of investment into learning this capability is conducted. Applicants should be aware that there will be a high tempo of work and flexibility will be expected as there could also be periods of holding readiness.

The successful applicant responsibilities will include:

  • The powers of Junior Subordinate Comd over your respective AoR.
  • Ensure that all personnel within your AoR are fully aware of current readiness states and the requirements of the Recall Plan and Readiness Orders.
  • Ensure the highest standards of discipline, dress and deportment are maintained for your respective AoR.
  • Maintain training records for all personnel within your AoR.

Operations & Training.

On operations the Flt Cdr is to command their Flt, or a sub-grouping as directed by the Sqn Cdr, and is to carry out tasks as detailed by the Sqn Cdr. The Flt Cdr is to carry out FPrep as mandated by the Sqn Cdr. They are to:

  • Develop a weekly training programme iso the Sqn Trg Directive and SSOs.
  • Coordinate all aspects of Flt training.
  • Support training conferences as directed by the Sqn Ops & Trg Cell.
