A vacancy has arisen for a Squadron Leader (Any) to serve as an Assessor at RAFC Cranwell on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 01 October 2026. The role of the Assessor is to deliver Armed Forces Recruitment to maximise optimal inflow of workforce to support the delivery of Defence Strategic and operational Capabilities. This role will be established when the Armed Forces Recruitment Programme (AFRP) comes into effect on 1 April 2027.

An Assessor will be responsible for:
- Conducting briefing sessions, assessment selection exercises and interviews of candidates
- Making recommendations regarding the candidate’s suitability for a career in the Services and chosen role
- Assisting in the creation of all recruitment collateral and content both digital and physical material
- As directed, assisting regular reviews of assessment practices, supporting external assurance and driving continuous improvement whilst tracking developments
- Ensuring policies, guidance and processes for Officer Assessment are coherent and updated
- Line Manager and Reporting Officer responsibilities as directed
To facilitate the transition, any candidate who is selected for this role will initially be employed as an OASC Boarding Officer (BO). A BO is responsible to SO1 Select for conducting interviews, facilitating the Exercise Phase, assessing candidates and the completion of all relevant administration for both civilian and serving personnel applying for:
- Commissioned service (regular and reserves)
- SNCO service in certain branches
- Bursaries
- Commissioned Warrant Officer Scheme
- Executive Warrant Officer Commissioning Scheme
- In-Profession Commissioning Scheme
Additionally, you are responsible for:
- Debriefing Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) candidates
- Writing relevant, performance-based reports on candidates
- Periodically acting as the OASC Duty Officer
- Any other duties tasked by SO1 Select
