A vacancy has arisen for a Wg Cdr and Any to serve as SO1 M&S at HWY on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 08 September 2026.
As SO1 M&S you are responsible to Air Cap Futures Hd through Air’s Chief M&S Officer (CMSO) for supporting development, delivery and coherence of (M&S) Strategy and Capabilities across all Air Environment Capability and Business Areas. You will work collaboratively across the RAF Whole Force M&S community on activities spanning the entire Force and Capability Development and Delivery Cycle.
The broad scope of the role is to:
- Support Air’s CMSO in development of HQ Air M&S Policy, Strategy and Ecosystem, ensuring coherence with JSP 939 and the Defence Digital Strategy.
- Support the CMSO in providing Governance and Direction for all M&S-related matters within the Air Environment.
- Work with the CMSO and the ASTRA team to support coherent development of grass-roots M&S capabilities and to include ASTRA activity within HQ Air MSSE policy and strategy.
- Enhance the value of HQ Air M&S capabilities by supporting work to rationalise use of M&S components, software models and data, and by supporting establishment of enterprise-level licensing arrangements with suppliers.
- Engage with the NADG and sister Services to promote coherence across Defence M&S programmes and capabilities.
- Support the CMSO in development of a Programme of Work (PoW) to deliver an M&S Ecosystem for Air, and in development of Business Cases and other initial programme definition and initiation artefacts prior to transfer to individual Capability Development teams.
