A vacancy has arisen for a OF3 SQN LDR to serve as SECOND IN COMMAND (2I/C) at SAAE, MOD Lyneham on Full Time Reserve Service (Home Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCo S), with an initial proposed start date of 30 November 2026 or earlier/later depending on candidate status.

Second in Command (2I/C) is the School’s Chief of Staff responsible for the day-to-day management and co-ordination of the school non training activities.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Deputising for the Chief Instructor in their absence.
  • Developing and maintaining the School’s Capability Development strategy, including Risk Management.
  • Develop and Managing the School performance indicators.
  • Delivery of the School HQ outputs, management of School HQ staff, and oversight of HQ Coy (outputs and staff management delivered through HQ Coy TM).
  • Preparing and maintaining the School’s Training Directive, including Physical Training plan, AT plan and CPD plan. Prepare and maintain the annual Force Development plan.
  • Preparing and maintaining the School’s In-Year financial plan, scrutinising bids for funding and coordinating with HQ DSAE for approval.
  • Overseeing administrative and personnel management of all military personnel, including preparing and maintaining the Leave Directive.
  • Unit Security Officer.
  • Preparing and maintaining the school’s Communication and Engagement Directive.
  • Any additional tasks delegated by the Chain of Command.
