A vacancy has arisen for a Flight Sergeant (Any Profession) to serve as the RAF Police Apprenticeship Centre Manager at the Defence School of Policing and Security, MOD Southwick Park, FAREHAM, Hampshire, on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 27 July 2026 (or earlier/later, subject to candidate status).

The RAF Police Apprenticeship Centre provides critical support, management and mentoring to Aviators undergoing the designated Apprenticeship scheme and their Line Managers during their first assignment.

The principal duties are:

  • Meeting the 2 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as set by HQ RAF Apprenticeships:
  • KPI 1. Timely completions for learners on programme must be at least 80% for each individual programme.
  • KPI 2. 95% of 3-monthly Learner Progression Reviews are to be completed and recorded on time.
  • Acting as RAF Employer-Provider Signatory on all Apprentices Evidence Pack documents. This responsibility can be delegated to a responsible party at the Centre Manager's discretion, with a record of this delegation maintained.
  • Ensuring delivery of all apprenticeship standard Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) and any mandatory qualifications or Functional Skills (FS), if applicable to meet the requirements of the apprenticeship.
  • Maintaining the contents of workbooks, portfolios or pre-gateway assessment material.
  • Ensuring that all procedures and practices meet the standards of Awarding Organisations, End Point Assessment Organisations (EPAOs), DfE, Skills England and Ofsted.
  • Following policy and processes set out by HQ RAF Apprenticeships for the management and administration of the RAF Apprenticeship Programme.
  • Ensuring that all Apprentice learner documentation is complete and accurate and uploaded to the Management Information System (MIS). This is to include:
    • Personal details and Apprenticeship Agreement & Training Plan.
    • Initial Assessment including a plan to implement recommendations for additional learner support.
    • Details of any Recognised Prior Learning / Functional Skills Alternative including copies of certificates.
    • Learner Progression Reviews, Maths/English Progress forms, EPA Gateway form and Exit Review.
    • Copies of certificates gained during the apprenticeship.
    • Apprenticeship Costing and Delivery Hours Evidence, including any adjustments to individual programme for prior attainment.
  • Complete, maintain and review Apprenticeship Costing and Delivery Hours Evidence, to ensure that training content and costs are evidenced, and that apprenticeship minimum requirements are being met.
  • Ensuring all apprentices are registered on the MIS within the maximum approved timescale of 6 weeks from the start of their apprenticeship and ensuring records are accurately maintained.
  • Complying with all direction provided by the HQ RAF Apprenticeships Finance Manager.
  • Ensuring a monthly personnel return is sent to the WO Support HQ RAF Apprenticeships.
  • Co-ordination of a Self-Assessment Report (SAR). All SARs are to conform to Ofsted requirements. SARs are to be completed as directed by ACIT.
  • Maintaining the Centre Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) as a working document, making it available to HQ RAF Apprenticeships/ACIT on request.
  • Development and maintenance of an effective Assessment and Internal Quality Assurance Strategy.
  • Ensuring centre standardisation meetings are held on a quarterly basis.
  • Documentation to be held on file within the Centre for all Assessors and IQAs containing a CV demonstrating occupational competence and copies of Assessor and IQA qualifications.
  • Act as a link between the Centre, the Ground Training School, the Professions Advisor, Awarding Organisations, DfE and EPA Organisations as required.
  • Ensuring input is maintained into any relevant apprenticeship standard review process (e.g. Trailblazer groups).
  • CMs are encouraged to share best practice across RAF Apprenticeships via the Centre Managers Forum, the MIS message board, Teams channels, workshops and seminars.
  • Required training and qualifications:
    • Assessor and IQA qualifications.
    • Prevent.
    • Relevant DTC Course.
    • MIS familiarisation.
    • Quality Auditing Skills course (Optional).
  • Attend Apprenticeship Monthly Forums and Centre Managers Forums or, when unavailable, ensure a member of the Centre is nominated to attend on the CM's behalf.
  • Read, acknowledge and implement any direction provided by HQ RAF Apprenticeships through communication channels including Teams, SharePoint and CMFs.
