A vacancy has arisen for a Flight Sergeant, Any Profession to serve as the RAF Leadership, Exploration and Development (LEAD) at HQ Air & Space, RAF High Wycombe on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 7 Feb 2027 or earlier/later subject to candidate status.
RAF LEAD (Leadership Exploration and Development) is a 12-month, part-time, leadership talent development programme for high potential enlisted aviators. The job holder will be responsible to the RAF LEAD programme manager for coordination of RAF LEAD administration. Responsibilities will include:
- Providing guidance, mentoring and support to all RAF LEAD participants throughout their 12-month programme journey, across the AS1, Corporal, Sergeant, and Chief and Flight Sergeant cohorts; monitoring participant engagement and progression, providing advice on programme requirements, and identifying and supporting the resolution of any questions, challenges or areas of concern.
- Coordinating and overseeing the RAF LEAD participant selection process in conjunction with RAF LEAD Champions, ensuring that applications, eligibility and selection are conducted in accordance with RAF LEAD policy. This will include the allocation and management of cohort places, responding to requests for additional spaces and providing guidance to RAF LEAD Champions and units on the selection process.
- Supporting the delivery of RAF LEAD programme launches and ongoing programme activity, including ensuring that participants understand their responsibilities and that all required programme administration, documentation and evidence is completed, uploaded and maintained accurately throughout the 12-month programme.
- Providing direct support, guidance and mentoring to RAF LEAD Champions across the RAF and Joint Service environment, ensuring that each participating unit has appropriate RAF LEAD Champion representation. This will include ensuring Champions are appropriately trained, understand RAF LEAD policy and processes, and are equipped to effectively support participants within their respective units.
- Monitoring and overseeing the progression of each RAF LEAD cohort throughout the 12-month programme, utilising available digital platforms, programme data and participant engagement to maintain an accurate and current understanding of individual and cohort progress. The job holder will identify participants who are not progressing at the required pace, provide appropriate guidance and intervention, and work with local RAF LEAD Champions, RAF LEAD Regional Warrant Officer, line managers and the Delivery Team to address any barriers to progression.
- Liaising directly with the RAF LEAD Regional Warrant Officer before and following station/unit visits, providing an accurate and current overview of each unit, including participant numbers, cohort, progression, engagement, outstanding requirements, areas of concern, positive developments, and relevant Champion information. The job holder will subsequently coordinate and monitor any actions arising from these visits.
- Supporting the continued development, quality assurance and governance of the RAF LEAD programme, including monitoring participant progression and readiness for graduation, undertaking appropriate quality assurance of Effective and Essential programme serials, identifying trends, risks and areas for improvement, and contributing to the future development and continuous improvement of RAF LEAD.
- Manage the coordination and assignment of approved elective opportunities to RAF LEAD personnel, ensuring selection processes are conducted fairly. Communicate outcomes to stakeholders and candidates in a timely manner.
