A vacancy may arise for a Flight Lieutenant (Aircrew, Pilot (Any)) to serve as Qualified Flying Instructor at RAF Benson on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 01 November 2026 or sooner/later subject to candidate status.
The role comprises of delivery of air and ground instruction for ab-initio aircrew as well as conversion and currency training for experienced aircrew on the AEF. You will be working as a member of a small team and be required to undertake a range of secondary duties associated with the supervision of flying and the management of the Squadron, including line management of staff. Furthermore, in addition to your duties with the UAS, but within the terms and conditions of FTRS(LC), you will be required to carry out those duties associated with a commissioned officer of your rank. Specifically, you will be required to:
- Act as Deputy Officer Commanding OUAS when required.
- Deliver flying training to UAS students and AEF pilots, in addition to other 22 Gp tasks, including EFT, Mission Aircrew Trg and other ad hoc tasks, in accordance with the current 6 FTS syllabus. The working week, usually Mon-Fri, can change to any 5-day period subject to 2 weeks’ notice of change and may include occasional weekend working.
- Attend squadron Training Nights (1900-2130) held weekly during university term, currently Monday evenings at THQ Falklands House, Oxford.
- Deliver monitoring of student flying progress and administration of student flying records and documentation.
- Deliver monitoring of staff flying and administration of staff currencies, instructor checks, Standards and CFS Exam Wg visits.
- Deliver supervision of the flying programme as Duty Pilot when directed.
- Deliver support to the AEF flying task when directed by OC UAS.
- Deliver supervision of the AEF flying task.
- Deliver change as directed by HQ 6 FTS or OC UAS.
- Support UAS ground training activities as directed by OC UAS in support of the ground training programme.
