Subject to formal establishment, a vacancy will arise for a OF3 to serve as SO2 SHEF 1 at Defence Academy Shrivenham on FTRS (HC) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 1 July 2026.

Unit Function: To develop the intellectual edge for success on operations and leadership in government, with our allies and coalitions in an era of persistent engagement.

Position Role: Delivery and coordination of staff inputs and outputs relating to J1 to J9 with a focus on Safety, Health, Environment and Fire at a Stn HQ level on behalf of Stn CO / HoE. Lead on all SHEF Plans and delivery. Deputise in the absence of Stn CO and support in conduct of this function.

Responsibilities:

  • Assure a planned and systematic approach to the management of HS&EP and CC&S in the HQ.
  • Plan and schedule SHEF audit inspections in accordance with Safety and Environment Management System (SEMS), on behalf of the HOE.
  • Draft and seek endorsement for routine HS&EP Assurance reports for onwards transmission to Chief Environmental Safety Officer (CESO), CSOC.
  • Provide advice and guidance on the formulation and implementation of HS&EP and CC&S Policy and practices for Shrivenham HoE.
  • With HQ SO1 Ops, maintain HS&EP and CC&S risk register. Provide and interrogate metrics for the development of performance and risk reporting.
  • Act as Chair at the HoE HS&EP and secretary at CC&S WGs (in support of Hd Res – CC&S Lead).
  • Support the Stn CO in delivery of a safe and secure Station.
  • Further specific responsibilities as directed by Stn CO.
  • Undertake continuous professional development, including mandatory and post specific learning and development and upskilling as required.
