Subject to formal establishment, a vacancy may arise for a Squadron Leader (Any Profession) to serve as OF3 Reserves Strategic Communications & Engagement on Part Time Volunteer Reserve (PTVR) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 10 August 2026.

This post will be part of the Reserves Directorate and support the delivery of engagement and communication activity across the RAF Reserves. Working to the direction set by Commandant General Royal Auxiliary Air Force/Director Reserves and the OF5 Reserves Communications and Engagement, the role focuses on translating strategy into practical outputs, coordinating activity across stakeholders, and delivering campaigns, products and engagement events.

The postholder will work closely with internal Air & Space stakeholders, RAF Reserves units, and key external partners including Defence Relationship Management (DRM), Reserve Forces’ & Cadets’ Associations (RFCAs), and employers. Hybrid/remote working is available to meet Service needs, with occasional UK travel for events and engagements.

Scope & Focus

  • Delivery within RAF & Defence. Supporting coherent engagement and communication activity across the Air & Space domain, ensuring messaging is delivered consistently across Groups, units and stakeholders.
  • External engagement delivery. Supporting engagement with employers, industry, academia and civic stakeholders to promote RAF Reserves’ contribution and value
  • Active & Strategic Reserve Lens. Support engagement activity that reflects the role of both the Active and Strategic Reserve within a Whole‑of‑Society approach

Key Responsibilities

Deliver

  • Produce communications products (briefing packs, narrative materials, digital content and engagement outputs) aligned to RAF Reserves messaging.
  • Implement elements of the Comms & Engagement Plan (Now, Next and Future), ensuring outputs are delivered to time and standard

Coordinate

  • Support coordination of engagement activity across stakeholders, ensuring alignment of messaging and activity across RAF, Groups and units.
  • Assist in planning and delivering engagement campaigns, events and stakeholder interactions.
  • Maintain stakeholder contact lists, engagement trackers and supporting products.

Coordinate

  • Plan programmes and campaigns that deliver through others, set rhythms, standards and feedback loops for sustained effect.
  • Monitor and report impact. Track outcomes (e.g., policy influence, partnerships, employer support, audience reach) and provide evidence‑based recommendations to the Air Senior Leadership Team.

Support

  • Prepare draft briefings, speeches, talking points and engagement packs for senior leaders.
  • Maintain and update a central repository of communications products for reuse across the RAF Reserves.

Monitor & Report

  • Track delivery and impact of engagement activity (e.g. event outputs, stakeholder feedback, reach and engagement metrics).
  • Provide inputs and evidence to support reporting to senior leadership
