Subject to formal establishment, Joint Boarding process and sS Policies, a vacancy will arise for an OF3 to serve as SO2 Combat Identification within the Integrated Warfare Centre, Northwood on ADC/VTOD Terms and Conditions of Service (TaCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 1 Sep 26 (Subject to formal establishment and candidate status).

Up to 180 RSDs per year are available for the right candidate to conduct the role. Initially a one-year commitment, with opportunity to extend.

Unit Function:

The Integrated Warfare Centre (IWC) ensures the current joint force is prepared to succeed against likely adversaries through optimisation, adaptation, and warfare development, supporting UK and NATO joint commanders to achieve operational advantage over adversaries, across the continuum of competition.

Position Role:
This is an exciting new opportunity for a suitably experienced OF3 to drive the development of joint combat identification (CID) as the subject matter expert within the Joint Battlespace Management and Combat Identification (JBM&CID) team.

The JBM&CID Team delivers Warfare Development (WarDev) under the Joint Force Development and Integration (JFDI) pillar within the IWC. JBM&CID is a critical ‘seam’ that requires iterative WARDEV to ensure the Integrated Force succeeds in a sovereign and NATO context.

SO2 Combat Identification’s primary role is to lead on the writing of Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) for the conduct of CID in the joint environment. The role will require analysis of existing doctrine and structures, leading to the development of a project plan for delivery of an updated Joint TTP publication. Whilst a background in combat identification, surveillance or targeting are advantageous, it is not essential. The right candidate will have the ability to operate in a joint headquarters environment and to lead and coordinate teams to produce high-quality staff work.

Interoperability across Defence, OGDs and other nations is critical and SO2 Combat Identification will work closely with military, civilian, and NATO organisations to ensure the UK is ready to operate as part of a NATO force. With significant flexibility, opportunities for travel, and the chance to make a tangible impact on defence and security, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of joint operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and analyse existing policy and doctrine to inform gaps and opportunities.
  • Lead on the development of key doctrine, specifically Joint Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (JTTP) for CID.
  • Coordinate and lead working groups and writing teams.
  • Collaborate with military, civilian, and NATO organisations to enhance interoperability and operational effectiveness.
  • Represent IWC, within CSOC and externally, as a SME in CID where required and support staffing for senior engagements.
