BACKGROUND
The Director Strategy and Policy organisation manages RN engagement with Ministers, the Ministry of Defence, Parliament, the other front-line Commands, allied Navies, Other Government Departments, the Maritime Enterprise, academia and think tanks, and the general public; developing and coordinating corresponding Navy policy. DSEI, SPC & CNE SO1 (DSP Events SO1) sits within Domestic Engagement, which covers a central team and mobile engagement, Naval Regional Commands and parliamentary engagement, matching audience and opportunity, however DSEI is delivered through a number of wider directorates, including Dev, Acq, FGen, Commercial, Finance and Comms.
ROLE DESCRIPTION & SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as the central POC for all RN activity at DSEI & CNE, including the Maritime Capability Conference, seminar programme and attending RN assets.
- Advise on the Defence contribution to government security policy, operations and shaping the international security environment as the DSEI / CNE Coordinator.
- Act as lead project officer for 1SL’s Seapower Conference (SPC), working to Head Royal Navy Strategic Studies Centre and supported by lead desk officer.
Key tasks include:
- In collaboration with SLT outer offices, Strat Engagement Team and event organisers, oversee the planning, preparation and coordination of senior and VIP officer engagement programme at DSEI & CNE.
- Manage the design, production and finance (including the sourcing and management of industry partners sponsorship ensuring adherence to Commercial governance practices) for the RN stands at DSEI & CNE.
- Identify, influence and manage industry partners sponsorship, whilst adhering to Commercial governance practices.
- Direct and coordinate the output of the ops team in line with the 1SL’s intent.
- Identify key stakeholders for DSEI & CNE internal planning meetings, coordinate and manage their outputs, consistent with endorsed themes and RN objectives.
- Represent the RN at all DSEI / CNE internal and external coordinated meetings to ensure objectives are considered and incorporated.
- Liaise with RN Communications to ensure internal and external communications plans are produced and implemented.
- Ensure a cycle of continuous learning and improvement through production of a PXR identifying lessons identified and are implemented.
- Engage with 1SLs team and CNE event organisers to explore opportunities for amalgamation of Sea Power Week with CNE, identifying proposals for consideration.
SPC:
- Implementation of the strategic intent for the annual 1SL SPC.
- Ensure tender process is managed in accordance with policy, then work with chosen supplier on successful implementation.
- Draw linkages between DSEI and SPC focused on content and sponsorship.
- Work with desk officer and chosen supplier to project manage the delivery of the event.
- Provide project updates and briefing documents.
- Liaise with RN Comms to build in opportunities.
