It delivers authoritative, policy-compliant OB governance, management and administration, and is directly accountable to both Commander and Director IGDN for the effective execution of these responsibilities.

Position Role

Serve as CSOC’s Desk Officer for all assigned Overseas Base (OB) issues, delivering coherent and coordinated situational understanding and authoritative advice to Commander, Director IGDN, DOB, PJHQ, MOD, and relevant OB staffs, in order to inform decision-making and enable the effective delivery of the UK’s standing military commitments.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure PJOB is structured and resourced to fulfil FMB role, with effective delivery of garrison functions and the provision of assured support to contingent ops.
  • Provide SME support to IGDN J5 and PJHQ on integration of CDS/CSOC directives relating to IGDN missions, tasks and associated policy development.
  • Plan and coordinate activities according to Defence requirements and policy for OBs, working with IGDN Policy, MOD, OGDs, PJHQ, and Allied partners as required.
  • Assess and articulate the implications of regional developments for UK and OB interests, in coordination with Defence Intelligence (DI) and PJHQ J2 as appropriate.
  • Maintain comprehensive political and military SA across regional and Allied partners, including their intent and any prospective requests for ABO of the OBs.
  • Conduct deliberate planning with the OBs and lead IGDN oversight and development of OB change programmes, in conjunction with DOB Policy and OB Commanders.
  • Provide advice on concept development to maximise Defence benefit from the geographical positioning and coverage afforded by the OBs.
  • Support contingency planning for potential ops with MOD/PJHQ, ensuring all planning assumptions reflect the OBs’ current capacity, capabilities and outputs.

Local Considerations

An incumbent who does not reside in Northwood may be required to remain within the local area and be available on call for extended periods, subject to operational demands. Travel across OBs and wider IGDN network consummate to the requirements of the role will be required. Incumbent is also deployable for FGEN related taskings as requested by IGDN HQ SLT. Duty Officer role requires being able to return to Northwood at short notice.
