A vacancy has arisen for an OF3 or OF2 Director of Music with a minimum of 5 years seniority in rank, and a positive promotion recommendation in their most recent OJAR, to serve as Director of Music, Music Services Profession (MSP), with an initial proposed start date of 01 March 2027 (or earlier/later, subject to candidates’ status)
- As Director of Music of a regular band you are responsible to the Principal Director of Music (PDM (RAF)) for the following:
- The efficient functional control of a Royal Air Force regular band, particularly in relation to ceremonial and musical performance.
- The fulfilment of all musical engagements allocated to your band.
- The deportment, turnout and appearance of your musicians at all times and in whatever circumstances that may arise.
- To maintain and further improve the quality of the band’s musical output in keeping with the professional reputation of MSP.
- The training and development of your musicians both personally and by delegation to your SNCOs.
- The day to day work routine of your unit.
- The welfare of all personnel serving under you.
- Direct liaison with Headquarters Music Services (HQMS) for all matters relating to music, bands and their functions and personal development of individuals.
- The maintenance of a band Engagement diary and Form 540 (Operation Record).
- The maintenance of a small administrative section to deal with routine correspondence, etc. as may arise.
- The writing and arranging of music as necessary.
- To ensure Business Continuity plans are maintained in coordination with HQMS.
