A vacancy has arisen for a WO - Air and Space Operations, Engineering / Air Tech Mgr (Any), Intelligence (Int An) or Aircrew - MAcr / WSOp (Any) to serve as Regulations and Policy SME at RAF Waddington on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 02 November 2026 (or earlier/later, subject to candidate status).
Reporting through the OC STANEVAL, the ISTAR Senior Operator to the ISTAR Delivery Duty Holder (DDH), in the RAF Waddington Air Wg, this position is to work as part of the ISTAR STANEVAL team specifically responsible for Regulatory and Policy compliance. A pan-ISTAR air system position, the role will involve working with the in-service ISTAR platform STANEVAL teams to ensure compliance against Regulatory Articles (RA’s) and Group Air Staff Orders (GASO’s), overseeing the development and production of ISTAR DDH Orders for all ISTAR platforms.
Duties of this role will include, but not limited to:
- Supporting the effective management of ISTAR Force STANEVAL Unit, in accordance with HQ 1 Gp (ISTAR) ASOs and act as the primary POC for 1 Gp STAR, MAA and RTS / DT Stakeholders.
- Support the formal standardisation and assurance of all RAF ISTAR qualified aircrew in accordance with Policy & Regulations, including coordination and associated reporting of all Sqn Formal Visit requirements.
- Providing SME advice to the ISTAR Senior Operator and Platform Safety to ensure that all risks held are ALARP and Tolerable.
- Ensure that all Flying Orders for ISTAR are correctly developed and maintained in accordance with MAA RA / GASO updates, and that operational and training activities follow such orders.
- When required, represent OC STANEVAL at Platform Safety Group and Platform Risk Review Group engagements, ISTAR Formal Visit (FV) OF 4 / 5 appointments, DDH Safety meetings, Instructor upgrade boards and Station / Air Wing Support Executive briefings.
- Coordinate pan-platform read file management and maintain the User Authenticator, SQEP and Authorised Checkers lists on behalf of ISTAR DDH.
- STANEVAL liaison with National and NATO partner units to ensure Aircrew and Engineering procedures are standardised across NATO aircraft in accordance with platform regulation and documentation.
- Continual update and improvement of the ISTAR DDH Order sets, liaising across all Sqn OCs to facilitate proposed amendments to ensure safe operation of ISTAR aircraft including the integration of new ISTAR platforms in to service.
- Incumbent will be required to travel to RAF Lossiemouth in conjunction with the Formal Visit program and engagement with E7 and P8 stakeholders for Orders integration.
