Subject to formal establishment, a vacancy may arise for a Wing Commander (Any Profession) to serve as Chief of Staff (Senior Air Staff Officer) at RAF Coningsby on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 01 September 2026 (or earlier/later, subject to candidate status and formal establishment). This role leads the coordination of Force Generation for CAFHQ personnel, ensuring clear prioritisation and effective allocation of supporting resources. It offers an exciting opportunity to orchestrate CAFHQ staff activity and output on behalf of the Combat Air Force Commander (CAFC), working closely with the Combat Air Deputy Force Commanders (CADFCs). The post sits at the heart of Combat Air, driving alignment, focus and delivery across the Headquarters.
Responsible for:
- Provide senior-level assurance to the Force Commander and Deputy Force Commanders on the effectiveness of CAFHQ.
- Deputise for the Deputy Force Commanders in their absence, maintaining continuity of leadership and direction.
- Lead the CAFHQ Support Team within the Central Pillar, including reporting officer duties where required.
- Manage all HHQ taskings into CAFHQ—allocating, tracking, and ensuring timely completion, including requests for deadline extensions when required.
- Oversee the effective staffing and recording of all RFIs, FOIs, and Parliamentary Questions (PQs) within mandated timelines.
- Coordinate the generation, quality assurance, and distribution of Operational Staff Work for CAFHQ.
- Lead the CAFHQ Weekly Synchronisation Meeting and deliver CAFC’s weekly priorities to the wider HQ.
- Ensure the production of daily and weekly CAFHQ Activity Reports in line with HQ 1 Gp requirements.
- Prepare and submit the monthly CAFHQ F540 return.
- Serve as the Senior Information Owner for CAFHQ, ensuring compliance with HQ 1 Gp IM policy.
- Work closely with CAFHQ A6 to coordinate information management activity and maintain/upgrade CAFHQ SharePoint pages.
- Maintain and update the CAFHQ Staff Handbook, ensuring it remains an accurate and accessible reference for all personnel.
