A vacancy has arisen for a Flight Lieutenant (Aircrew Pilot/WSO (Any)) to serve as SO3 Platform Safety Manager at RAF Cranwell on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of being not before 28 September 2026 (or later, subject to candidate status).
The 3 FTS Air Safety Team (AST) is responsible for all Air Safety (AS)-related activity for the Embraer Phenom and Grob Prefect aircraft operated by 3 Flying Training School (FTS) at RAF Cranwell and RAF Barkston Heath. The 3 FTS AST is headed by the SO2 Air Safety Manager (ASM), who reports directly to Deputy Commandant 3 FTS, as the Senior Operator (SO) to the Delivery Duty Holder (DDH), for all AS matters pertaining to Grob Prefect and Embraer Phenom aircraft operations. This post will be based at RAF Cranwell alongside the remainder of the 3 FTS AST.
The SO3 Platform Safety Manager’s role will be to support the SO(DDH), through the SO2 ASM, as required, responsible for:
- Occurrence investigation and management activity for 3 FTS aircraft
- Contributing to the maintenance and development of the Air System Safety Cases for 3 FTS aircraft
- Supporting the maintenance and development of 3 FTS Bow Ties, ensuring that applicable incidents, hazards and observations are recorded via the Scenario-Based Incident Registration process
- Assisting with the 1st Party AS assurance process across 3 FTS
- Assisting with the delivery and development of the 3 FTS AS promotion strategy
- Managing the 3 FTS AS Award process
- Upholding, promoting and developing the 3 FTS Air Safety Management System
