A vacancy has arisen for a Sgt (Any Profession) to serve as a Careers Engagement (CE) Team member in the CE Midlands (Mids) Area (Leicester) on FTRS (LC) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 04 May 2026 (or earlier/later subject to candidate status).

Careers Engagement staff are directly responsible for planning, executing and assessing Recruitment and Selection (R&S) interaction with groups or individuals who are eligible to join the RAF or may do so in the future. The main bulk of this task is carried out in Education Establishments (EEs): schools, colleges and universities in the Midlands Area.

The SNCO CE will be required to attend careers fairs, apprenticeship events, graduate recruitment fairs and at each provide a positive message about the RAF as a career of choice. Often this interaction will involve giving presentations to large or small audiences as well as conducting one-to-one careers advice interviews with students and young people interested in applying to the RAF. On occasions the message may be delivered during Personal Development Training (PDT) or assisting STEM Ambassadors at STEM events.

In addition to the work with EEs, CE staff are required to build and maintain links with the RAFAC in the Midlands Area from liaison with Wg staff to delivering careers sessions at individual Squadrons. CE staff are further required to identify and develop working relationships with other youth organisations and education partnerships where the RAF can work with pre-eligible or eligible individuals and groups. This is particularly important in groups where the demographic is under-represented in the RAF.

As a member of the Area Careers Engagement Team you are responsible to Gp Capt R&S through OC and WO Mids CE for contributing to the construction and implementation of the Area Careers Engagement Plan (CEP) recording your Careers Engagement (CE) activity following best practice and achieving value for money in your activities.

Implementing your part of the Area CEP by meeting the targets set by OC Mids CE through the Area WO, particularly establishing/building relationships with the following CE recruiting audiences:

  • Main Effort (ME): Achieve the specified degree of candidate diversity within the delivery of the Into Training Requirements (ITRs).
  • Under 18s: Improving recruitment of Under 18s with an emphasis on Apprenticeships and DfE guidance that allows students to leave school at 16 for an RAF career through focused engagement marketing and recruitment practices that inform candidates, their parents (or carers) and the broader education community.
  • Underrepresented Groups: Raise the profile of the RAF to all under-represented groups across all professions through careers engagement marketing and recruiting practices.

Routine Objectives: Undertaking and contributing to RAF CE activity as directed both in and outside working hours and at weekends by:

  • Delivering careers presentations at selected EEs and other venues that may involve travelling significant distances and/or entering locales requiring pre-assessment of local security conditions.
  • Representing RAF R&S at events such as shows and careers fairs (duties which may include carrying heavy loads such as boxes of recruiting literature and/or bulky display items and then manning stands and other platforms for prolonged periods of time often without regular pauses for rest and/or refreshment).
  • Visiting, establishing close relations with and delivering CE activities to units of the (ACO).
  • Further utilising the knowledge and skills associated with your own profession in support of specific CE events and/or activities.
  • Acting as a role model for the youth population both on and off duty but most especially at public events, shows and exhibitions.

This role will involve some evening and weekend work and applicants must also be prepared to travel with some duties involving overnight stays within Limited Commitment terms of Service.
