A vacancy has arisen for a Flt Lt, WO/MAcr – Sgt (Air Ops Any), however, preference will be given to Air & Space Ops Profession (Air Ops)/(TG7) to serve as Dedicated User Area Manager at RAF Shawbury on Additional Duties Commitment 180 Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 23 November 2026, or earlier/later depending on candidates status.

RAF Shawbury is a busy tri-service Phase 2 and Phase 3 training unit, home to Number 1 Flying Training School (1FTS) and the Defence College of Air and Space Operations (DCASO). The role is in support of Sqn Ldr Ops (SLOps)/Aerodrome Operator (AO), covering a broad spectrum of areas ranging from the day-to-day management of all elements within Ops Flt, contingency response, and serving on various associated working groups.

As DUA Manager, ADC, 180 Days you will be responsible for:

  • Acting as the focal point for the effective day-to-day management of all Shawbury Low Flying Complaints and DUA Management within Station Operations.
  • Administering the Fields & Clearings used by RAF Shawbury based aircraft, including liaison with the Landowners, assurance of published information, and liaison with 1FTS regarding suitability and required maintenance.
  • Administering the Low Flying Hotspot and Sensitive Area List (SAL), promulgating the information to RAF Shawbury and visiting aircraft.
  • Creating a Field & Clearing usage chart monthly and progressively for the year and forwarding it to 1FTS Standards and OC Engagement and Media Team.
  • Coordinating day-to-day airfield and airfield support facilities at RAF Shawbury and associated RLGs–Tern Hill & Chetwynd.
  • Supporting and coordinating the initial contingency response to an incident in accordance with the relevant Contingency Plans.
  • Administering the Defence Aerodrome Manuals (DAMs) in accordance with the Defence Aerodrome Audit Framework (DAAF) for RAF Shawbury, Tern Hill and Chetwynd RLGs.
  • Serving on the following committees and working groups: Unit Air Safety Meeting, Duty Holder Air Safety Assurance Board, Aerodrome Operator Assurance Board, Aerodrome Operator’s Hazard Log, Snow and Ice Control Committee (BLACKTOP), DUA Management Working Group and SAL review.
  • Helping to foster and maintain a close liaison between Ops Flt, AMSU, ATC, Ascent and the 1FTS.
