A vacancy has arisen for a Warrant Officer (Any Profession) to serve as the Station Warrant Officer & Catering Contract Support Officer at RAF Spadeadam on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 27 July 2026 (or earlier/later subject to candidate status).
As the SWO you will be by appointment the most senior non-commissioned rank on the Unit and any other outlying Units that fall under the Command of your Station. This position you report directly to the Station Commander on all matters that affect the smooth running of the Station and act as their trusted advisor. You will be expected to lead as the senior aviator and fully deliver your prime responsibilities detailed below.
- You are the exemplar with regard to AP1 and will fully embody and deliver the principles laid down in Appendix 27 of KRs.
- Member of the Station Executive iaw KR104.
- Responsible for the maintenance of discipline standards, welfare and morale across the Stn/Unit and in any outlying Units under their command.
- Represent the Stn Cdr in their absence as directed by the Stn Cdr.
- Fully integrated in executive level engagement with local agencies/authorities.
- Integral member of the Stn/Unit Honours & Awards Boards.
- Responsible to the Stn Cdr for all matters regarding Drill and Ceremonial iaw Chapter 5 of KRs and AP818.
- OIC of the Junior Ranks Welfare Fund.
- Attendance at and responsible for overseeing the planning and delivery of the Stn Cdrs Inspection Programme.
As CCSO you are responsible to OC BSS for the following:
- Monitor and maintain the standards within the Mess ensuring that all relevant guidelines within the JSP 456 Vol3 / All Health and Hygiene Regulations are adhered to.
- Update the catering account daily ensuring that it is run within its parameters advising the senior chef when needed.
- Submit the end of month account to RAF Cat Ops before 17th of each month.
- Act as the point of contact for any catering issues advising when required.
- Carry out regular no-notice inspections of the Mess at meal times.
- Undertake periodic checks on early breakfasts and weekend meals examining their quality and the standards of hygiene and kitchen practices.
- Note improvements and record and pursue any deficiencies.
- Encourage improvements and innovation in the standard of messing.
- Advise the Messing Committee giving professional catering advice if called upon.
- Maintain a close liaison with RAF Cat Ops.
- Ensure correct HO/TO procedures for ration accounts and food stocks are kept in accordance with JSP 456 Vol 3.
- Ensure appropriate liaison exists between the in-coming and out-going contractors to ensure a smooth contract transition.
- Ensure early direction and advice is imparted regarding accommodation and messing in the planning of Stn events.
