Description of Role/Purpose: The primary role of the WT1 is to maintain the Unit’s weapons and equipment in accordance with the Service regulations and the Unit’s Equipment Care Directive. The role holder will manage the armoury/workshop and provide WT support to the Unit to include Det locations as required. In addition, the role holder will provide logistical support to unit exercises and regional output.
Primary Responsibilities: The WT1 is responsible for:
- Management and Security of the armoury and workshop.
- The safe custody of all weapons and materiel whilst held in the HQ Armoury at RMR Bristol and HMS FFX.
- Be a proficient JAMES operator to ensure accurate records and scheduling is maintained.
- Carry out Mandatory Equipment Inspections (MEIs) at the designated intervals on all weapons and equipment held throughout the Unit and Det locations.
- Maintain all documentation associated with unit weapons and equipment.
- Maintain workshop tools and equipment to the required standards, advising the UEM when mandatory legislative checks are due.
- Operate as the Unit Radiation Workplace Supervisor, implementing Radiation Safety measures in accordance with JSP 392 and Unit HS&EP policy.
- Maintain the relevant areas of the Loan Repair Account and ensure all items of stores dispatched for repair/calibration are recorded in the S124 Register.
- Maintain weapon fault and cleaning registers for all wpns and associated equipment.
- Ensure weapon cleaning and maintenance programmes are implemented throughout the Unit and Det locations in accordance with the UECD.
- To be fully conversant with Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Orders (HS&EP).
- Deliver Equipment Care training as required.
Secondary Responsibilities: The WT1 is responsible for:
- Assisting the RQMS in general stores duties as directed.
- Providing armourer and general logistic support to weekend activity and pan-RMR training activities and deployments.
Authority: The WT1 is authorised to:
- Liaise directly with those service and civilian authorities in accordance with Land Equipment User Maintenance Standards to achieve appropriate levels of equipment assurance.
- Collect / Return weapons / equipment to / from Detachments for repair with prior approval from the UEM and RQMS.
- Issue weapons to authorised personnel.
Line Management: The Armourer is directly accountable to the CoS, via the RQMS.
