Subject to Establishment approval, a vacancy may arise for a Wing Commander/Squadron Leader (Aircrew, Air Engineer, Air&Space Ops) to serve as Next Generation Operational Training Staff Officer in Capability Delivery (Combat Air), Air Capability at RAF High Wycombe, on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 12 March 2027 or earlier subject to candidate’s status.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal, leading role in delivering the Next Generation of Red Air (airborne adversary) capabilities which will provide essential operational readiness training (ORT) for Front Line Force Elements, principally the Combat Air Force. The successful applicant will take the project from Concept Phase of the acquisition CADMID Cycle. Working with a multi-disciplinary team of service personnel, civil servants and contractors, the role will be hybrid office-based, but there will also be opportunities for some national and international travel.
Position responsibilities:
- Leading the cross department NGRA Requirements Working Group.
- Acting as the Project Manager for the Next Generation Red Air (NGRA) Project.
- Acting as Deputy Portfolio Director for the MUSTANG[1] Portfolio (Pf NGOT).
- Ensuring that project-level risks are identified, assessed and managed by DLOD, and escalated to portfolio level if necessary.
- Ensuring that Combat Air Programme Level 0 and Level 1 schedules contain accurate and up-to-date synchronised delivery plans for NGRA, showing key activities, milestones and decision points.
- Developing and maintaining close working relationships as required with Air Cap Strat, Air Cap Del, HQ 1 Gp, HQ 11 Gp, DE&S, Dstl and Industry.
- Providing Air Cap SME input into appropriate Air Capability Audit, Management and Development fora.
- Supporting the ASTRA Vision by promoting the benefits provided by Next Generation Operational Training (NGOT) and by encouraging innovation for efficiencies and excellence.
- Developing professional knowledge, skills and attitudes which bring benefit to the role and enhance role effectiveness.
- Supporting the HQ Air Cmd and Air Capability battle rhythm of meetings as required.
- Supporting Hd and AH CA in maintaining key stakeholder relationships across Air, other TLBs, Partner Nations & Industry and informing them of new technology.
- Supporting the other projects within the NGOT MUSTANG Portfolio.
