A vacancy has arisen for a Squadron Leader (Aircrew (Any)) to serve as 3 FTS SO2 Air Safety Management Team at RAF Cranwell on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 02 October 2026.
The 3 FTS Air Safety Team (AST) is responsible for all Air Safety (AS)-related activity for the Embraer Phenom and Grob Prefect aircraft operated by 3 Flying Training School (FTS) at RAF Cranwell and RAF Barkston Heath. The 3 FTS AST is led by the SO1 Senior Operator (Delivery Duty Holder) (SO(DDH)), who reports directly to Commandant 3 FTS, as the DDH, for all AS matters pertaining to Grob Prefect and Embraer Phenom aircraft operations. This post will be based at RAF Cranwell.
The SO2 ASMTs role will be to support the DDH, through the SO(DDH), as required, responsible for:
- Maintenance of a regulatory compliant ASMS within 3 FTS, describing the practices, processes and culture necessary to achieve this in a, routinely updated, 3 FTS ASMP, including:
- Create a ‘safety vision’ for the organisation and the 3 FTS AST.
- Promote an engaged AS culture across 3 FTS.
- Coordination of routine AS Mtgs as directed by the ASMP.
- Define Objectives and Targets based on ADH Priorities to measure the effectiveness of the 3 FTS ASMS.
- Manage 3 FTS AS trg requirements, ensuring suitable SQEP in the AST and at sqn level.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with superior, peer and subordinate organisation ASMSs and personnel.
- Oversee 3 FTS engagement with the RAF Cranwell and RAF Barkston Heath post-crash management contingency plans.
- Oversee compliant ASMS-related document management process, including the effective retention, evaluation and feedback of information.
- Coordinate the reporting of incidents, hazards and observations through recognised methods, e.g. DASOR.
- Oversee the execution of OSIs and ORGs as they relate to 3 FTS occurrences.
- Oversee ADH risk management strategy and process through effective utilisation of the ASSC and BT methodology.
- Develop and implement a 3 FTS ASMS assurance strategy, including liaison with those agencies delivering 2 and 3PA activities.
- Ensure coherence of 3 FTS ASMS with superior policy.
- Develop and maintain an AS CI programme.
- Develop and implement an AS promotion strategy, including an AS Award programme.
