We’re looking for a motivated and detail‑focused Finance Officer to play a key role in supporting the day‑to‑day financial operations of the organisation. This is a varied and rewarding position, ideal for someone who enjoys working at the heart of finance and making a real impact through accuracy, collaboration and service excellence.
You’ll help ensure robust accounting processes, efficient payment services and full compliance with both internal controls and external requirements. The role also offers the opportunity to take on added responsibility, providing essential cover for the Finance & Banking Manager and acting as an escalation point for the Finance Administrator and Payment Services team.
What you'll be doing:
- Supporting the day‑to‑day delivery of finance and payment services, ensuring accuracy, efficiency and high service standards
- Providing operational cover for the Finance & Banking Manager and acting as an escalation point for complex finance and payment queries
- Overseeing core finance activities to ensure tasks are completed on time and in line with procedures
- Maintaining accurate financial records, including purchase ledger activity, reconciliations and transaction processing
- Ensuring timely and accurate payments, including invoices, expenses, payroll and other business payments
- Supporting financial reporting, forecasting, audit activity and regulatory submissions as required
- Acting as a key contact for internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, partners and banking providers
- Supporting, guiding and providing informal supervision to Finance Administration and Payment Services colleagues
- Identifying and escalating financial risks or control issues to support strong governance and compliance
What you'll need:
- Experience in providing general administrative and financial clerical support
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated and well organised
- Resourceful and able to meet deadlines
- Ability to analyse data and present in a clear manner
- Confident in using MS Office Package, proficient in Excel
- Competent with IT systems
Desirable:
- Graduate degree and/or professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
- Experience of working in a financial service’s regulatory environment
- Understanding and appreciation of the Credit Union movement

You don’t need to have any experience in a Credit Union as full training is provided. Hybrid working is available for all employees, with a minimum 3 days at our offices in Birmingham (between 9am and 4:30pm) and the rest from home if you prefer.
