Responsible for: All generalist mechanical engineering design requirements within a manufacturing environment

Client brief: Our client is a specialist supplier of engineering design and manufacture services for a diverse range of industries worldwide.

KEY INFORMATION

Reason for vacancy: Continued growth

Contract: Permanent

Basic pay: £40000

Shifts: Monday to Thursday 8am-4.30pm, Fridays 8am-12.30pm

Breaks: 15-minute morning break, half hour lunch break

Holidays: 21 + Bank Holidays

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Role: We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who can design innovative and progressive materials handling equipment, as part of a dynamic and growing engineering team. Working alongside engineers, senior level management and other industry professionals, to conceptualise, develop and enhance these solutions, whilst also contributing to the evolution of our processes.

Key Requirements of the role:

  • SolidWorks – Daily use of software.
  • Intermediate level design tasks including modelling, detailing of parts, technical drawing, assembly construction, converting 2D legacy data, etc.
  • Ability to interpret and create technical drawings.
  • Understanding of material application/selection, machining efficiency, types of manufacture and their applications (turning, milling, welding), tolerances, fits, finishes, treatments, etc.
  • Support project management.
  • Production of Technical Manuals.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation, including technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Communicate progress and findings to stakeholders effectively.
  • Contribute to quality assurance processes by conducting tests, inspections, and evaluations to ensure that projects meet industry standards and client requirements.
  • Engage in continuous learning and development opportunities.
  • Attend training sessions, workshops, and seminars to enhance your technical and professional skills.

Shift duration per day: 8.5 hours

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Mechanical design/engineering experience within the materials handling industry or similar.
  • A minimum of an HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline.
  • Highly proficient in 3D CAD (Solidworks) with experience designing for manufacture.
  • Previous experience using Solidworks PDM or similar would be advantageous.
