Responsible to: Lead Estimator / Senior Commercial Lead
Purpose of the Role: To support the commercial and estimating function within a growing civil engineering business, assisting with costings, tender preparation, and general project administration while developing core industry knowledge.
Client Brief: Serply Recruitment Ltd is supporting a well-established civil engineering business with decades of industry experience. Due to continued growth and an increasing project workload across utilities and infrastructure sectors, they are seeking a Commercial Assistant to work closely with senior leadership and support the delivery of commercial estimates and project documentation.
KEY INFORMATION
- Reason for Vacancy: Business growth and increased workload following new contract wins
- Contract: Temporary (with strong potential for long-term progression)
- Hourly Rate: £13.00ph-£14.00ph depending on experience
- Shifts: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
- Holidays: Statutory entitlement
- Facilities: Office-based with occasional site exposure
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the preparation of commercial estimates and basic costings (training provided)
- Assist with tender documentation and submission processes
- Compile, organise, and maintain project and commercial data
- Produce reports, presentations, and supporting documentation
- Manage incoming communications including emails and calls
- Provide general administrative support to the commercial team
- Attend occasional site visits to develop project understanding
- Work closely with senior staff, gaining hands-on exposure across estimating and commercial functions
- Gradually take on increased responsibility as experience develops
