How You Will Help
As a Project Manager, you will lead the delivery of a large‑scale Solar PV and battery retrofit programme. This role has full accountability for project delivery, commercial performance and stakeholder management. You will manage the full project lifecycle, from mobilisation and planning through to installation, commissioning and close‑out, working closely with social landlord partners, consultants and contractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to a high standard. You will be the primary point of contact for key stakeholders and will balance customer expectations with Sero's operational and commercial goals.
What We’ll Be Asking You To Do
- Project Management and Delivery
- Oversee the full lifecycle of key retrofit projects, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget delivery and high quality standards.
- Act as the primary point of contact for social landlord partners, consultants and contractors.
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, timelines and risk registers.
- Manage project budgets and financial forecasts, tracking variances and performance.
- Identify, assess and manage project and commercial risks and opportunities.
- Own project issues, resolving challenges proactively.
- Provide regular progress updates and reporting to internal stakeholders and partners.
- Work collaboratively across Sero teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Technical Oversight and Coordination
- Oversee coordination and delivery of Solar PV and battery retrofit measures.
- Liaise with technical specialists and contractors to ensure safe, compliant delivery.
- Ensure all works meet relevant electrical, building and retrofit standards.
- Monitor installation quality and performance, coordinating inspections where required.
- Maintain strong awareness of Health & Safety requirements (NEBOSH desirable).
- Commercial Management
- Review, negotiate and manage contracts, sub‑contracts and commercial agreements.
- Ensure contract obligations are clearly understood, communicated and delivered.
- Monitor variations, change control and commercial claims.
- Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts and cost controls.
- Track project financials, ensuring profitability and cash‑flow targets are met.
- Provide commercial input into tendering and bid processes.
- Manage supplier and contractor relationships to ensure performance and value for money.
- Process, Compliance and Improvement
- Ensure compliance with all legal, contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate and auditable documentation and records.
- Support audits and internal reviews.
- Identify opportunities to improve delivery processes and operational efficiency.
- Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Provide flexible, hands‑on support to the wider project team when required.
To Hit The Ground Running
- Essential Proven experience in project management within construction, social housing or energy retrofit sectors.
- Degree‑level qualification in an aligned discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Commercial experience developing and delivering projects.
- Background in Quantity Surveying, Procurement, Contract Management or equivalent commercial training/experience.
- Technical experience in large‑scale deployment of Solar PV and battery storage systems.
- Stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Commercial awareness with experience owning budgets and forecasts.
- Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, power queries, financial modelling).
- Adaptability in a fast‑moving environment.
- Passion for sustainability and enabling net‑zero outcomes.
- Desirable (but not essential) Professional accreditation such as RICS or CIOB.
- Desirable (but not essential) Project management qualifications (PRINCE2, PMP, Agile PM).
- Desirable (but not essential) Experience within the social housing sector.

Working Hours
We consider full‑time to be 37.5 hours per week between 7 am and 7 pm Monday to Friday but this could also be a part‑time role if it works best for you. How you wish to make a working pattern is up to you, as long as you’re meeting the needs of the role. We think work should suit your lifestyle, so we welcome you to work when you can be most efficient. We’d like some of your working hours to be coordinated with other team members and stakeholders to ensure we’re efficient and communicating effectively.
Location
We have an office based in Cardiff and would expect you in the office on average 3 times per week.
Salary
We’re budgeting between £45,000 – £55,000 per year for a full‑time person in this role, with the offered salary being based on previous experience. If the role is part‑time, the salary will be adjusted accordingly based on the agreed hours.
