Tadcaster Full-Time On-site
Serious Fraud Office

The Serious Fraud Office is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as its next Director. This is a unique and high-profile opportunity to lead the UK's specialist authority for investigating and prosecuting the most serious and complex cases of fraud, bribery and corruption. As Director, you will be at the forefront of efforts to combat economic crime, deliver justice for victims and protect the UK's reputation as a safe place to do business.
The Serious Fraud Office occupies a distinctive position within the criminal justice system, bringing together lawyers, investigators, forensic accountants and other specialists to manage the full lifecycle of its cases, from intelligence and investigation through to prosecution and asset recovery. Its work frequently involves powerful suspects and defendants, significant sums of money, international activity and the highest levels of public scrutiny.
As Director, you will have ultimate accountability for the organisation's operational and corporate functions. You will set its direction and priorities, decide which criminal investigations should be opened and which cases should be prosecuted, ensuring that the SFO has the resources, skills and capabilities required to succeed. You will also be accountable to the Attorney General for the exercise of your functions and to Parliament, as accounting Officer, for the expenditure of public funds. Providing clear, visible and strategic leadership through an ongoing period of change will be central to the role. You will build a culture of excellence, integrity and inclusion, strengthening organisational capability and using technology to improve efficiency and performance. You will also develop trusted relationships across government, UK and international law enforcement, the wider public sector, civil society and the private sector, while serving as the authoritative public face of the organisation to the media.
You will be a highly credible and resilient leader, with experience of effective executive-level decision-making across complex operational delivery and strategy. You will bring a strong track record of leading change, managing risk and making difficult decisions, alongside the ability to engage colleagues at every level and deliver through high-performing, multidisciplinary teams. Experience of leading investigatory or legal functions within law enforcement, criminal or civil litigation, or a public sector organisation will be essential. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead an organisation with a vital national and international mission, helping to shape the response to increasingly complex economic crime and ensuring that serious corporate criminals and fraudsters are held to account. The Civil Service values diversity of experience and perspective, and applications are welcomed from candidates of all backgrounds who can demonstrate the transferable skills required to succeed in this demanding role.
