Ready for more?

Salon General Manager – Hair, Team & Education

You've built the column.

You've built the clientele.

You've mastered your craft.

What's next?

We're looking for an experienced hair professional and exceptional people leader to help lead the next chapter of Serenity Loves.

We're a large, multi-award-winning independent hair and beauty salon in Peterborough with a team of approximately 16, including experienced professionals and apprentices.

This isn't a traditional Salon Manager position.

We're looking for someone who can take genuine responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of the salon, motivate and develop our team, drive commercial performance and work closely with our owner on the continued growth of the business.

You'll also maintain a smaller client column, allowing you to continue doing the hairdressing you love while developing the next stage of your career.

Role

You'll take responsibility for:

  • Leading, motivating and developing a large salon team
  • Creating a positive, accountable and high-performing culture
  • Coaching team members and helping them achieve their goals
  • Managing performance, KPIs, productivity and standards
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding and retention
  • Supporting the development of our apprentices
  • Maintaining exceptional client experience
  • Driving rebooking, client retention, retail and commercial performance
  • Managing the day-to-day salon operation
  • Working closely with the owner on future growth and opportunities
  • Maintaining a part-time client column

Who we're looking for

Your current title isn't particularly important to us.

You could currently be a:

  • Salon Manager
  • Assistant Manager ready for more responsibility
  • Salon Director
  • Head Stylist
  • Master/Senior Stylist with strong leadership experience
  • Hairdressing Educator
  • Self-employed stylist ready for a new challenge

What matters is that you understand professional hairdressing, you're commercially aware, you know how to lead people and you're excited by developing others.

You'll need significant salon-floor experience and demonstrable leadership or management ability.

You should be confident managing performance, targets and KPIs, having difficult conversations when necessary and creating an environment where people feel supported and accountable.

Education & apprenticeships

Developing the next generation of hair professionals is incredibly important to us.

We've supported more than 30 people through qualifications during our time in business and currently have apprentices within our team.

An assessor qualification would therefore be highly desirable - but it is not essential for the right person.

If you're an outstanding salon leader who loves developing people, we'd be happy to discuss supporting you to gain the appropriate qualification.

We would rather recruit an exceptional leader and invest in their development than lose the right person because they don't tick every box.

Why join Serenity Loves?

Growth and development are at the foundation of what we do.

We're entering another exciting period for the salon and from next month will begin a new collaboration with a global professional colour brand, creating further opportunities for advanced education, training, industry collaborations, events and experiences.

As our General Manager, you'll have the opportunity to help shape that next chapter.

We offer:

  • Competitive senior management salary
  • Commission from your personal column
  • Performance-related management bonus opportunity
  • Paid holiday
  • Workplace pension
  • Private healthcare
  • Ongoing professional education and development
  • Advanced professional brand training
  • Opportunities through our new global colour partnership
  • An established salon and client base
  • Genuine responsibility and autonomy
  • Support to gain an assessor qualification where appropriate
  • The opportunity to influence the future of an established independent business

Currently self-employed?

We understand why so many experienced hairdressers have chosen self-employment.

We also understand what comes with it - finding clients, marketing, stock, accounts, tax, cancellations, quiet periods and paying for your own development.

This role offers another option.

Continue doing the hairdressing you love, but combine it with genuine leadership, career progression, an established client base, a large team around you, ongoing education and the security and benefits of employment.

You don't have to stop being a brilliant hairdresser to take the next step in your career.

Not actively looking?

That's absolutely fine too.

The person we're looking for may already be employed, self-employed or working within education.

If reading this has simply made you think "I'd quite like to know more...", we'd be very happy to have an informal and completely confidential conversation before any formal application.

No pressure and no expectation.

Just an opportunity to find out whether we could be the right fit for each other.

We're looking for exceptional leaders

You've spent years becoming exceptional at this industry.

Perhaps your next step isn't another chair. Perhaps it's helping lead what comes next.
