About Us

247 Aviation Air Ambulance provides a dedicated global aeromedical service from our Belfast International base, with a secondary base in development. We operate a fleet of Learjet 45XR and Pilatus PC-12 aircraft in air ambulance configuration with state-of-the-art medical technology. Our missions include medical repatriation, inter-hospital transfers, and critical care retrievals worldwide.

The Role

As a Critical Care Flight Nurse, you will:

  • Deliver advanced critical care during international aeromedical missions.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary in-flight team (doctor, nurse, paramedic) or independently on lower-acuity transfers.
  • Care for patients with diverse conditions, including respiratory, cardiac, trauma, surgical, obstetric, psychiatric, and palliative.
  • Participate in ground ambulance transfers and occasionally scheduled/commercial escort missions.
  • Assist with mission preparation, documentation, and post-flight review.
  • Integral role in mission planning, including flight coordination duties from our Medical Operations office.

This role is ideal for ICU nurses who are calm under pressure, adaptable, and motivated by delivering world-class care in challenging environments.

Training & Development

  • Full orientation and induction programme (classroom, online, and practical training).
  • Mentorship and supervision during initial missions.
  • Annual competency endorsement for aeromedical practice.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must meet all essential criteria:

  • Right to work in the UK or ROI
  • Current NMC (UK) or NMBI (ROI) registration
  • Ability to work from Belfast base (with UK/international travel)
  • Minimum 3 years’ post-registration experience (Band 5 or above)
  • Recent (within 2 years) ICU/Level 3 critical care experience
  • Skilled in managing ventilated and inotrope/pressor-dependent patients
  • Current ILS/ALS provider certification
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication
  • Good health record & physical fitness for aeromedical work
  • Access NI/DBS clearance, no disciplinary record
  • Able to maintain part-time ICU work to keep clinical skills current
  • Commitment, enthusiasm, and strong teamwork skills

  • Accredited ICU course qualification
  • Experience in ground/aeromedical patient transport
  • Aeromedical/transfer training course completed
  • Ability to remain effective in high-pressure situations
