In one shift, you might coordinate an urgent, rapid-response aeromedical flight for NHS Blood and Transplant, mobilising specialised paediatric and surgical retrieval teams to save lives. The next, you could be managing complex international flight logistics, diplomatic clearances, and bespoke VIP handling for executive charters across the UK and Europe. The Role We are seeking an organised, decisive, and safety-focused Flight Operations Supervisor to lead our on-duty Operations Control desk. Reporting directly to the Flight Operations Manager, you will oversee day-to-day flight operations, mentor a dedicated team of flight coordinators, ensure uncompromising UK CAA regulatory compliance, and maintain flawless operational delivery across our fixed-wing fleet. Key Responsibilities Shift Leadership & Deputisation: Lead and support the operations team on duty; deputise for the Deputy Flight Operations Manager during operational peaks, out-of-hours coverage, and planned absences. Flight Planning & Dispatch: Oversee end-to-end flight planning, route optimisation, slot coordination, airfield performance assessments, and crew meteorological/route briefings. Mission-Critical Escalation: Serve as the senior operational point of contact for NHS clinical teams, urgent organ retrieval coordinators, private charter clients, and flight crews. Rostering & FTL Compliance: Monitor live and forward crew rosters in strict compliance with UK CAA Flight Time Limitations (FTL) and fatigue management standards. Permits & Global Clearances: Secure international overflight and landing permits, diplomatic clearances, customs arrangements, and specialised handling setups. Operations Manual Maintenance: Assist in the continuous review and updating of Operations Manual Part C (Route and Aerodrome Instructions). Training & Mentorship: Design and deliver technical training for junior coordinators; foster continuous professional development and standard operating procedure (SOP) discipline. Systems Administration & Reporting: Manage Operations Control software workflows, supervise the pre-ops mailbox, and prepare operational KPIs and safety statistics. Safety & Regulatory Culture: Actively champion and enforce exacting standards in line with the Safety Management System (SMS) overseen by the Director of Flight Operations (DFO) and Compliance team. Candidate Profile Essential Criteria: Experience: Minimum 2 years of proven experience within an AOC Operations Control Centre (OCC), flight dispatch, aeromedical coordination, or high-pressure mission-critical logistics. Regulatory Understanding: Solid working knowledge of UK CAA / EASA flight operations regulations, FTL rules, and flight planning fundamentals. Leadership & Composure: Demonstrable ability to manage a shift, prioritise multiple live tasks, and make sound operational decisions under time-critical pressure. Communication & IT: Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills; strong proficiency across modern flight operations software and Microsoft Office Suite. Licensing & Security Vetting: Full UK Driving Licence (maximum of six penalty points); right to work in the UK; ability to obtain a Belfast International Airport airside security pass (requiring a 5-year checkable work/education history and an AccessNI criminal record check). Desirable Criteria: Prior experience in specialized aeromedical, air ambulance, or ad-hoc private charter operations. Practical experience with flight planning and OCC management software platforms (e.g., PPS, Jeppesen, Centrik).
